Kari Ikonen (b. 1973), who turns half a century this year, brings a nostalgic boost to Porvoo, when the Karikko band, founded 25 years ago, performs a selection of charismatic compositions from the iconic band’s original repertoire over the years. The lineup of the top international band has changed many times, now the foreign players have been replaced by domestic champions, and the original Karikko includes drum artist Mika Kallio in addition to Ikonen.
As an Emma awarded pianist, moogist and composer, and Yrjö prize and international composition competition winner, Ikonen is also known for his collaborations with e.g UMO, Orchestra Nazionale della Lunan Lee Konitz, Louis Sclavis, Ingrid Jensen and Bob Moses. He has performed in the Soviet Union and the United States, the Far and Middle East, Australia, Africa and more than 30 European countries. There are fifty records, 9 of which are under his own name.
