The music of the duo featuring saxophonist and flutist Ilmari Rönkä and vibraphonist Mikko Antila is chamber-style jazz that leaves room for color and nuance. The duo’s repertoire consists of compositions by Röngän and Antila that make the most of the duo’s sound. The warm harmony of the flute, saxophone, and vibraphone, the duo’s musical interplay, and their rhythmic energy keep the audience captivated.
The younger generation of multi-instrumentalists has already made a significant impact on the Finnish jazz scene. Rönkä plays in groups such as Tasavallan Presidentti Completa and the Joonas Tuuri Quartet, and in recent years has performed extensively with the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra. Antila is known for his band Sinetti, as well as for Mikko Innanen’s new quintet, the Stance Brothers, and Kaisa’s Machine, among others.
On September 25, 2026, Flame Jazz Records will release the duo’s album, recorded at Roihuvuori Church Magic Meadow, which consists mainly of compositions by Rönkä. Welcome to the album release concert!
