Porvoo Jazz Club is participating in the Porvoon Valot event for the second time. This time, the lights are designed and implemented by the Porvoo-based Hakalight & Taavi Paananen! Mimie Moore is a surprising acoustic trio of three women (Elina Brooks, Maija Kurki & Saana Trygg-Nevanlinna). In Mimie Moore’s works, the music dances wildly between moods, not shying away from even the most poignant shades, as rich harmonies resonate with humor and seriousness at all levels. The band’s unique, rootsy sound, with its songs, bucket bass, accordions, and washboards, brings a touch of the old world to new music. Known for their stage charisma, Mimie Moore tells the story of a person in the human waves of life sensitively and boldly, without hiding big emotions. Over the years, the band has performed at events across Finland and Germany and has collaborated with numerous bands and musicians. The trio has been awarded in Basso Radio’s NOST€ competition and has produced music for the Finnish skateboarding national team, among others.
In 2024, it will be ten years since the band started touring, and in honor of this, they are organizing a celebratory tour: “10 Years of Honey.” The tour concerts will feature an expanded lineup, the seven-member Mimie Moore Jazz Edition, where the trio’s bold lyrics, strong melodies, and rich harmonies combine with performances by top jazz musicians. Under the skilled hands of bassist Esko Grundström, trumpeter-pianist Mikko “Gunu” Karjalainen, guitarist Mikko Iivanaisen, and drummer Jesse Ojajärvi, the music, referred to as “suojazz” (protected jazz), takes on entirely new and intriguing shades. The tour concerts are supported by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
