Jimi Ahlroos is a saxophonist and composer from Oulu, who actively performs with his own ensembles and can be heard in bands such as Peelan and Unitet. Ahlroos’s music features not only modern jazz melodies but also strong echoes of blues and rock music.
Ahlroos debuted as a bandleader and composer with the EP Jimi Ahlroos Trio, released by Jazzaggression Records in the fall of 2024. The material from the album received airplay shortly after its release, including on Worldwide FM in Gilles Peterson’s radio show, Radio Helsinki, and in Yle’s jazz club program.
Jimi Ahlroos Trio is a band formed in Helsinki that primarily plays Ahlroos’s original compositions. The sonic tapestry created by the combination of saxophone, double bass, and drums produces an acoustic, intimate, and compelling soundscape through Ahlroos’s compositions. In addition to Ahlroos (soprano and tenor saxophone), the band features outstanding musicians: Tuomo Purhonen (double bass) and Mooses Kuloniemi (drums).
