“Arppa sings captivating stories, which the supple harmony of the jazz trio emphasizes.” – Yle Matti Toivonen
Best known for their energetic, improvisation-based performances, Arppa and their band are among the top names in the current Finnish indie scene. Arppa’s enchanting music is timeless, and the lyrics are like moving pictures – insightful, sincere, and vividly depicted moods travel from Ykspihlaja in Kokkola all the way to the late-night Helsinki and a secret speakeasy with Laila Kinnunen in July ’58.
Arppa’s popularity is based on diligent touring and a frequent release schedule. Arppa has gathered talented and charismatic musicians around him, creating a beautiful and cohesive sound world around his atmospheric lyrics. The natural and effortless presence of Arppa and the genuine joy radiating from the band’s performances cannot help but sweep the audience along. Often, the concerts dive into free-jazz jam sessions amidst beautiful ballads.
The artist, who self-released their debut album “Laavalamppuja” (Lava lamps) in August 2020, has swiftly risen from a promising newcomer to one of the most current and beloved names in our country. Arppa released their second album “Kinovalon alla” (Under the cinema light) in September 2021, with the first edition of LPs selling out in three weeks. The album appealed to both audiences and critics, and all singles released from the album received national radio airplay. The album release was followed by a tour, with many sold-out shows in various cities. That same year brought the artist four nominations at the Emma Gala (Newcomer of the Year, Rock Album of the Year, Critics’ Choice, Artist of the Year – Audience Vote) and 3rd place in Soundi’s Best Albums of 2021 Audience Vote.
Arppa and the band released their highly anticipated third album “Valeria” on March 10, 2023.
