Originally from Lappeenranta and now residing in Brooklyn, USA, Olli Hirvonen is one of the most accomplished musicians of his generation, known for his unique expression that draws influences from a wide range of genres including jazz, experimental music, and heavier sounds. Hirvonen won the Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition in 2016 and has worked alongside several renowned international artists. <\/p>\n\n
Hirvonen’s latest album, “Kielo,” deepens his playing and compositional work with earthy influences. The album’s nuanced sound palette consists of shades of modern jazz, down-to-earth Americana, and rugged folk-rock. The prestigious American jazz publication Downbeat Magazine selected it as one of the best albums of 2023, and AllMusic described its sound as \u201ca fiery rocket breaking through Earth\u2019s atmosphere.\u201d <\/p>\n\n
On the 2024 tour in Finland, Hirvonen will be joined by Irish bassist Simon Jermyn, known for his work with bands including Jim Black and John Zorn, and American drummer Sam Ospovat, who has settled in Tuusula and is known for his associations with Lydia Lunch, Brandon Seabrook, and the band Enablers. <\/p>\n\n
