In Vanha 123 you will experience two concerts with one ticket. The doors to the venue will open at 7.15 p.m. when you will get the chance to relax perhaps with a glass of wine. The two gigs will start at the same time in different halls at 8 p.m. During a small break the audience will switch halls and hear the other band starting at 9:15 p.m. On Saturday 25.9. you will be hearing Reiska Laine Quintet and Norwegian Kjetil Mulelid Trio with the same ticket.
Reiska Laine Quintet is truly something that is worth checking out! It is the first time that Porvoo Jazz Festival will host a band whose every member has a very long and outstanding career and have been awarded with a Yrjö-Award (Finnish Jazz award). The band is remarkable also because it’s a first actual solo project for the legendary drummer Reino “Reiska” Laine (b.1946)
Originally Laine had a true jazz awakening already in 1961 when John Coltrane performed in Helsinki. Ever since he has played in over a hundred recordings and been drummer in numerous significant bands all over the world. Now after over 50 years as a professional drummer it was time to gather his very own group. To the lineup he chose two of his favourite tenor sax players Juhani “Junnu” Aaltonen and Eero “Koippa” Koivistoinen. The rythm section, formed in the spirit of Coltrane he had to get pianist Seppo Kantonen and bass playe Uffe Krogfors that Laine claims to be the only real choice to this band.
