Pepa Päivinen Peacepipe

Porvoo Jazz Club offers another unique opportunity to experience bold and lively Finnish jazz in an intimate club atmosphere. On Friday 6.2., Pepa Päivinen’s Peacepipe will take to the stage. Peacepipe will continue Pepa Päivinen’s legendary quartet (2004-2013) with a new, bold line-up. The result is music that breathes freely, breaks boundaries and takes the listener deep into the heart of soundscapes.

Saxophonist and flutist Pepa Päivinen is an open-minded and boundary-breaking multi-instrumentalist whose down-to-earth and personal playing is one of the cornerstones of Finnish jazz. Guitarist Timo Kämäräinen brings a rich and surprising dimension to the band’s sound, with expressive power that transcends genre boundaries. Bassist Ville Herrala ‘s powerful and deep sound provides a solid foundation for the band’s unprejudiced colour palette. Drummer Mikko Hassinen completes the whole with his listening, responsive and imaginative playing, where dynamics play a central role.

Peacepipe’s music is calmly melodic and painterly, but also harbours a fierce proge-jazz-free energy. The deep-penetrating expression challenges familiar musical boundaries and opens up new, intriguing paths. Individually strong voices and the quartet’s collective sensibility create an intense and compelling atmosphere – an experience that stays with you for a long time.
