Iro Haarla, A pianist, harpist and composer, creates music that has abstract and even dissonating harmonies, but in the end, it all aims to beauty, peace and to touch people.

Recently Iro Haarla has gathered a new quartet that will be presented in Porvoo Jazz Festival. Saxophonist Juhani Aaltonen, bass player Ulf Krokfors, and drummer Markku Ounaskari are musicians that she has played many many times over the years and you can also hear that in the profound sound.

Iro Haarla, 62, is a musician that became well known in the 1970s as a working partner of her husband, percussionist Edward Vesala. In the later years of her career she has published several loved solo pieces and among all worked with Norwegian jazz professionals.

She has recorded for ECM and TUM- records. In 2006 she received a Yrjö-award by Finnish Jazz Association and 2018 the Ted Curson award by Pori Jazz. Two of her albums have been awarded as best jazz-album by Emma- awards.
